Kerrigan Casey is a dynamic and trailblazing artist born in Florence, AL, and currently based in Birmingham, Alabama. Rooted in the complexities of her upbringing in the rural South, her work is driven by emotion, color, and lived experience. It explores themes of identity,  community empowerment, and social reality through abstraction and expression. As a multidisciplinary artist, she explores and celebrates the complexities of identity, race, and the power of human connection.

With a focus on socially engaged art. Kerrigan has positioned herself as a leader in the field, using her platform to raise critical conversations around race, systemic inequity, and policy. Her artwork is not only a reflection of her own experiences as a Black Woman navigating cultural barriers, but also a celebration of the resilience, strength, and unity within her community.  In addition to her practice as an independent artist, Kerrigan has worked as a project manager, developing immersive art installations that encourage dialogue around pressing social issues.

 

One such project, The Art of Resistance, brings together Alabama's death row artist and Black artist from across the state to transform archival documents from Alabama's death row into powerful mixed-media exhibits. The project has become a poignant example of how art can serve as a tool for resistance and healing.

As an advocate for emerging artist of color, Kerrigan has also co-developed scholarship programs to support underrepresented artists through major cultural festivals.  She has collaborated with numerous non-profit organizations to uplift marginalized communities, believing firmly in the transformative role that art and activism can play in shaping a more just and equitable society. Whether creating evocative portraiture, managing thought provoking installations or mentoring young artists. Kerrigan continues to pave the way for future generations of artist who are committed to using their work for positive social change.
